Resolve to Save Lives partnered with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to host a technical workshop to review and validate the Draft National Toolkit for Integrated Hypertension and Diabetes Control at Primary Health Care Facilities. The toolkit is designed to provide standardized guidance for the prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and long-term management of hypertension and diabetes, helping ensure more consistent, high-quality care across the country’s primary health care system.
The workshop brought together representatives from government institutions, professional bodies, academia, patient groups, and development partners to review the toolkit’s technical content and strengthen its implementation guidance, monitoring systems, digital health components, and sustainability approaches. Following consensus on key technical and editorial recommendations, participants validated the draft toolkit.
The agreed upon recommendations will now be incorporated before the final toolkit is submitted for ministerial approval ahead of the nationwide rollout. Once approved, the toolkit will support a more coordinated approach to hypertension and diabetes care across Nigeria. It will also enable states beyond those currently implementing the Nigeria Hypertension Control Initiative to strengthen the management of uncomplicated hypertension and diabetes at primary health care facilities.
