Together with implementing partner Jhpiego, RTSL India has scaled up its Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy (HDP) programme to Shajapur district, Madhya Pradesh. The expansion—which builds on results from the prototype in the Harda district—covers 150 public healthcare facilities and aims to protect 30,000 pregnancies annually.
The programme will support women with blood pressure care from their first antenatal visit through post-partum follow-up. Teams will roll out standardized treatment hypertension protocols to primary health care staff, strengthen data systems to better monitor women during and after pregnancy and ensure essential medicines and quality diagnostics are within reach. Women identified with high blood pressure during pregnancy will receive dedicated follow-up care after delivery.
Over time, frontline health workers will identify high-risk pregnancies earlier, follow standard treatment steps and help pregnant women and access the blood pressure control medicines they need—all at the primary care level.
A formal launch event for the expanded program included district leadership and featured a training session on ‘Management of Hypertension during Pregnancy’ for service providers from primary and referral facilities.
