Stakeholders gather to protect Indonesians against artificial trans fat and high salt foods

Resolve to Save Lives partners interviewed by the press in Indonesia following healthy food environment roundtable

RTSL Nutrition experts convened a stakeholder roundtable in Indonesia with local partners ADINKES and Kemenko PMK (Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs) to present research on harmful trans fat, share evidence on best practice food policies, and solicit feedback from stakeholders on priorities for sodium reduction and trans fat elimination. The meeting was attended by over 70 people from government, academia and civil society, and was well received by the media.

The burden of high blood pressure in Indonesia is high: ~40% compared to global average of ~30%. A comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach will be needed to create healthier food environments that protect consumers from high salt and trans fat consumption—both of which contribute to heart attacks, strokes, and premature death.
