A new study that tracked 6.1 million people across 119 countries paints an alarming picture: the burden of high blood pressure has shifted sharply toward the world’s poorest countries, and treatment hasn’t kept up.
Key findings:
- The number of people with high blood pressure has nearly doubled in twenty years
- 77% of the world’s hypertension burden now falls on low- and middle-income countries, up from 68% in 2000.
- That number is expected to increase to 80% by 2030 when the number of people living with high blood pressure surpasses 2 million.
This research, supported by Resolve to Save Lives, reinforces the urgency of efforts to prevent and control high blood pressure.
