RTSL donates IPC supplies toward an “Epidemic-ready” Ethiopia

Boxes full of infection prevention and control supplies stacked in a supply room

As part of our Epidemic-Ready Primary Health Care project in Ethiopia, Resolve to Save Lives donated infection prevention and control (IPC) and other materials valued at over 3.6 million Birr to the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau to support the city’s health centers to better prevent and respond to epidemics.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Girma Dessie,  Country Director of RTSL Ethiopia, noted that the donation would serve as a seed for continuous efforts to improve health resilience and security in the country.

Dr. Mulugeta, Deputy Head of the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau, expressed gratitude to RTSL for the support and reiterated the Bureau’s commitment to strengthening epidemic preparedness through technical and capacity-building training for health professionals: “We greatly appreciate this vital support, which will further our shared mission of strengthening epidemic preparedness in our health facilities.”

Also speaking, Mentwab Gidey, Principal Manager of RTSL’s Prevent Epidemics Program in Ethiopia, outlined the project’s objectives and shared plans to expand its reach to additional government and private health care facilities in South Ethiopia beginning in April 2025. She underscored the importance of sustained collaboration to achieve these goals:

  • Strengthen disease surveillance and IPC at health care facilities through mentorship and capacity building
  • Improve early detection and reporting of public health events in health care facilities
  • Improve rapid responses for public health emergencies through strengthened rapid response teams in health care facilities
