When the DRC Ebola outbreak was announced, Kenya’s national public health team was ready.
Through Resolve to Save Lives’ Country Connected Leadership Initiative, the Kenya National Public Health Institute had already developed and approved Ebola messages in anticipation of a future outbreak; they began disseminating them—via social media and influencers rather than traditional printed posters—as soon as the threat in the region became clear.
The Country Connected Leadership Initiative supported the Kenya team to identify risk communication as a core growth area and build a stronger working relationship with the country’s risk communication lead. That relationship drove a real change in mindset toward faster, more proactive communications. The result is a more responsive public health system, better equipped to get accurate information to people quickly when it matters most.
