JANUARY 28, 2025 (NEW YORK, NY) – Resolve to Save Live (RTSL) today announced the appointment of Dr. Lia Tadesse Gebremedhin, Executive Director of the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program, to its Board of Directors, effective January 20, 2025.
“We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Gebremedhin to our Board of Directors,” said Dr. Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives. “Dr. Gebremedhin brings proven leadership improving health in Ethiopia and beyond. We look forward to her guidance and partnership to reduce preventable deaths worldwide.”
Prior to her current role at the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program, Dr. Gebremedhin served as Ethiopia’s Minister of Health, where she led the country’s COVID-19 response and strengthened the health system. Under her leadership, Ethiopia expanded national oxygen and critical care capacity and launched its first vaccine manufacturing initiative.
Previously, Dr. Gebremedhin served as Program Director at the University of Michigan’s Center for International Reproductive Health Training, CEO and Vice Provost of St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, and Project Director of USAID’s Maternal and Child Survival Program in Ethiopia. Dr. Gebremedhin has held numerous leadership roles in global health governance, including as Vice Chair of the Africa CDC Board, Co-Chair of the COVAX AMC Engagement Group, and member of the WHO Executive Board.

Dr. Gebremedhin earned her medical degree from Jimma University, specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Addis Ababa University, and a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Jimma University. She has published over 40 articles and has been recognized internationally for her advocacy for gender equity and access to quality health care.
