The 7-1-7 target helps keep El Salvador “malaria-free”

In September 2025, 313 Salvadoran men traveled home from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where they had been working in malaria-endemic regions. Using the 7-1-7 target, public health officials mounted a rapid response and managed to stop the spread of imported malaria cases and maintain the nation’s malaria-free status.
