Four more countries validated by WHO for actions toward a trans fat-free world

Austria, Norway, Singapore, and Oman awarded by WHO for efforts to eliminate toxic trans fat for foods.

At this year’s 78th World Health Assembly, World Health Organization awarded four countries—Austria, Norway, Oman, and Singapore—for their exemplary efforts in eliminating industrially produced trans fats from their national food supply.

This brings the total number of countries validated to nine—including Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Thailand, recognized in the programme’s first series of awards in 2024—and marks another significant milestone in the global effort to eliminate trans fats, reflecting not only policy commitments but also the concrete actions being taken to remove trans fat from the food supply.

The next application cycle for the WHO validation programme for trans fat elimination is now open, and countries are welcome to apply by 31 August 2025 to be considered for the third cycle.
