The World Health Organization (WHO) has embedded the 7-1-7 target for timely outbreak detection and control in the new National Health Emergency Alert and Response Framework. The comprehensive guidance supports countries through every stage of a health emergency—from detection and notification to risk assessment, activation, response, and operational review. It emphasizes performance evaluation and introduces clear timelines for key actions, building on 7-1-7’s performance improvement approach to drive faster, more effective outbreak response.
WHO previously incorporated 7-1-7 to its Fourteenth General Programme of Work for 2025-2028 and its Guidance for conducting an early action review. The new framework is a sign of growing acceptance of 7-1-7 across global health leaders responsible for preparedness and response to outbreaks.
