Did you know that every year, lead exposure contributes to 3.4 million deaths from heart disease? The overwhelming majority of these preventable deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.
With support from Open Philanthropy through the Lead Exposure Action Fund (LEAF), we are working alongside government and local partners in Nigeria to prototype a national model focused on reducing lead exposure from cosmetics, while also strengthening surveillance, regulation, and broader government capacity to protect communities. Through Bloomberg Philanthropies Lead Poisoning Prevention Initiative, we are partnering with the World Health Organization (WHO) to create a global technical package that will enable countries to take coordinated, effective action on lead poisoning prevention.
These two projects represent how Resolve to Save Lives works—we partner locally to co-create solutions to the world’s biggest health threats and scale the best solutions worldwide.
Together, we can make lead poisoning history.
