Public health leaders from eight countries in Central and South America came together in Panama City this month for a workshop on Early Action Reviews (EARs) and the 7-1-7 target for timely outbreak detection and control, co-hosted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the 7-1-7 Alliance.

Epidemiologists and public health preparedness teams from Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay and Uruguay worked together to develop plans to integrate EARs into their national systems. EARs are a critical tool developed by the World Health Organization that leverages the 7-1-7 target to learn from outbreaks and improve future response.
