August 19, 2024 — Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL), a not-for-profit organization working to prevent 100 million deaths from cardiovascular disease and make the world safer from epidemics, announced today the appointment of Dr. Farzad Mostashari, Co-founder and CEO of Aledade, Inc., as the new Chair of RTSL’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Mostashari has been a member of the RTSL’s Board of Directors since its inception in February 2021. He succeeds Dr. Margaret (Peggy) Hamburg, who has been RTSL’s Board Chair since February 23, 2021. Dr. Hamburg remains a Director on the Board.
“On behalf of the entire organization, I thank Peggy for her remarkable years of service and am thrilled to welcome Farzad as our new Board Chair,” said Dr. Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives. “With the rising global burden of cardiovascular disease and the proliferation of new microbes that could cause deadly epidemics, this is a pivotal moment. Farzad brings deep expertise in patient-centered health care, epidemiology, and public health along with commitment to our mission and organizational experience.”
Effective July 25, 2024, Dr. Mostashari provides direction, leadership, and oversight of RTSL’s activities, with efforts to increase the organization’s impact around the world.
“I’m honored to support Resolve to Save Lives in its efforts to save lives through proven, scalable programs,” said Dr. Mostashari. “Over the past few years, I’ve been inspired by seeing the amazing impact of RTSL and its partners around the world. I look forward to deepening my involvement on the Board and to working alongside RTSL and our fantastic Board members as we tackle some of world’s deadliest health problems.”
In 2014, Dr. Mostashari co-founded Aledade, a start-up aimed at helping primary care doctors transform their practices and form Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). Previously, he was National Coordinator for Health IT at the United States Department of Health and Human Services and served as a Distinguished Expert at the Brooking Institute’s Engelberg Center for Healthcare Reform. Prior to this, he founded the NYC Primary Care Information Project, which equipped 1,500 physicians in underserved communities with electronic health records.
“It’s been a privilege to serve as the inaugural Board Chair, helping advance Resolve to Save Lives’ mission during a critical period of growth,” said Dr. Hamburg. “I’m confident the Board is in excellent hands with Farzad and look forward to continuing to be part of this exciting, life-saving work in the years ahead.”
