AUGUST 18, 2025 (NEW YORK, NY) – Resolve to Save Live (RTSL) today announced that Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar, Vice Provost (Health) at University College London, will join its Board of Directors, effective July 30, 2025. Dr. Abubakar has served on Resolve to Save Lives Nigeria’s Board of Directors since April 6, 2022.

His leadership fighting tuberculosis, COVID-19, and other health crises is invaluable as we continue to work to stop preventable deaths around the world.”
Dr. Abubakar is a member of the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board and Chair of the WHO Global Clinical Trials Forum. He was Head of Tuberculosis at Public Health England and previously served as the Chair of the World Health Organization Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Tuberculosis until 2019.
Dr. Abubakar is the Chair of Lancet Migration and the Lancet Nigeria Commission. In addition, he served on the Public Health Board of the Open Society Foundation, the National Institute for Health and Care Research Global Professorship Panel, the Medical Research Council Global Health Board, and as a Scientific Adviser to the UK House of Lords Science of COVID-19 Review. Until July 2021, he was the Director of the UCL Institute for Global Health.

Dr. Abubakar qualified in Medicine from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, and gained an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, a Diploma in Public Health from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD from the University of East Anglia. He is a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences, German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and a UK NIHR Senior Investigator Emeritus.
