The Simple app manages more than 4 million patients—and health workers love it

The digital team at Resolve to Save Lives helped build the Simple app, which now treats more than 4 million patients in 4 countries. In a new article for Sage Publications, Resolve to Save Lives and the DHIS2 team detail a participatory approach to app development that co-designs the information system with the nurses and doctors who will be using it every day. As of October 2022, nearly 25 million patients with hypertension and 9 million patient with diabetes under the India Hypertension Control Initiative were registered in the information system that came out of this user-centered design process. On average, registering a new patient took only 50 seconds and recording information for follow-up appointments took 14 seconds. High satisfaction was reported in quarterly interviews among 100 app users demonstrating high usability among users and the benefits of a user-centered approach for effective digital health solutions.
