Methods
Data was collected from the information system database of the Institute for Public Health of Montenegro. The analyzed data includes data on samples taken in the framework of the Food and feed safety measures Program for 2021 and 2022 (Official Gazette of Montenegro, No. 81/21 and No. 39/22), which includes the Program for monitoring the quality and salt content of bakery products. The analysis also included the salt content of samples from other categories of products that were submitted for testing Institute for Public Health of Montenegro by inspection authorities or food business operators in this period.
Products were categorized into 3 main groups and further into 17 sub-categories corresponding to those established by the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro in cooperation with the Directorate for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs in Montenegro. Mean, median, minimum and maximum values (mg per 100 g of product) were calculated.
